September TBR ft. Becca’s Bookoplathon & Magical Readathon: Orilium

I usually don’t post my TBR here as I tend to stray from it quite often and it wouldn’t really have any meaning that way. This month however, I am participating in 2 readathons and I’m determined to complete both and thereby also finish this TBR for once.

First readathon I’m participating in is Becca’s Bookoplathon, created by BeccaAndTheBooks over on Youtube. This is based on the TBR game she plays each month that is inspired by Monopoly. She created a board especially for this readathon with all new prompts and it looks really exciting. Rules are that for every time you throw a double (both dice showing the same number) you add on another roll and if you don’t want to fulfill the prompt you landed on, you can roll again, but then you have to fit in two prompts for the next space you land on. You can find all the details in her announcement video.

The second readathon I’m participating in is the Magical Readathon: Orilium: The Novice Path. G from Book Roast has completely rebranded her Magical Readathon and has come up with a whole new world and a whole new story. Go check out her video for all the details (it’s a lot, but it looks incredible). In this readathon you are a novice, going to study at the Orilium Academy. The first academic year starts in April next year I believe, but right now, we still need to make our way to the Academy by completing at least 2 prompts on the way. (of course, I’m going hard mode and I’ll try to complete all seven). Before classes start in April, you also get to create a character, which I’ll be doing throughout the coming months. Lots of time left for that.

Now let’s get into the actual books I’ll be reading. For Becca’s Bookoplathon, I planned on starting out with 10 rolls, that is the average amount of books I’ve read in the last couple of months. I have quite a few days off from work in September, so I’m confident that I can even read a few books more. I then tried to choose books that would also fit for the Magical Readathon and tried to get as many of my book subscription box picks and the book for our September book club in there as well.

Roll 1: double 2 (a great start), So it will now be 11 rolls total.

The prompt this lands me on is TBR vet and Jade war by Fonda Lee is one that has been sitting on my shelves for a while. This will also double for the The Novice Path Entrance prompt for Magical readathon as this book features a map in it.

Roll 2: a 6 and a 4

That landed me on “Underhyped” for which I will reread As the Shadow Rises by Katy Rose Pool in anticipation of the last book in the trilogy that is coming out this month as well. I don’t see nearly as much hype for it as it deserves, so it fits the prompt well.

Roll 3: a 3 and a 1

This put me on Myth, Lore, Legend, Fairytale, a hard one for me to fulfill, but I ended up choosing The Endless Skies by Shannon Price. It has the following sentence in the synopsis: Soon the warriors―including two of Rowan’s closest friends―are sent on a dangerous mission to find a fabled panacea deep within enemy lands. Sounds like something out of legend, right? (I promise that this is the only prompt I’m stretching a bit.

Roll 4: a 2 and a 4

With this I landed on “Spooky”. A great opportunity for me to put in The Devil Makes Three by Tori Bovalino. And this also doubles for a magical readathon prompt: Obsidian Falls: read a thriller or a mystery book.

Roll 5 is another double: two times three. I’m now at a total of 12 rolls.

This is a “feed scroll”, so I decided to go on bookstagram to see what pops up. The first book I saw that I could get access to (it should be delivered by mid September I hope) was These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan.

Roll 6: a 6 and a 3

This lands me on “Highest rated” and I’m so happy that I can add Skyward by Brandon Sanderson to my TBR now as it is the September pick for the book club I’m a part of. It also doubles for a magical readathon prompt: Orilium Academy Arc: book with a school setting.

Roll 7: another double (2×5), giving me a total of 13 rolls now (this is going to be tough)

For the “Monster” prompt, I decided to go with Afterlove by Tanya Byrne, as the main character is a reaper. I also have it for the Magical readathon prompt: Ruin of the Skye: read a book featuring ghosts/haunted house, or other supernatural elements. A perfect fit.

Roll 8: a 5 and a 6

Yay! I get a Becca recommendation!  So I sent a picture of my TBR shelves to Becca and she chose Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow for me, by Jessica Townsend.

Roll 9: a 2 and a 3

This landed me on the “Time of day train station”. Since I’ve been reading (and loving) the Nevernight series by Jay Kristoff, it was obvious for me that I would choose Darkdawn. I’m really looking forward to this series finale. It also doubles for the Magical readathon prompt Tower of Rumination: read a five-star prediction.

Roll 10: a 3 and a 1

“Last letter-first letter” I didn’t feel like figuring out what I could read for this one (there sure are some options, but they weren’t at the top of my TBR. Therefore, I chose to roll again and take the punishment of choosing two books for the next roll.

Roll 10, the reroll: a 3 and a 2

I’m really excited for the “LGBTQ+” prompt as lots of books these days have representation so I should be easy to find 2. I chose Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman, which is a re-read so I can continue on with the series. I do remember it having some LGBTQ+ rep. For the second book I chose Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko, which is labelled as LGBTQ+ on GoodReads, so I hope that is trustworthy. I’ll also use Raybearer for the Magical readathon Prompt Ashthorn Tree: a book that keeps tempting you (or top of your TBR).

Roll 11: a 6 and a 1

The opposite form before: “Lowest rated”. I’m actually quite excited about this book: This Golden Flame by Emily Victoria. The synopsis already sounds amazing. It also fits for the final Magical readathon prompt The Mist of Solitude: read a standalone.

Roll 12: a 1 and a 2

Another TBR vet. This time I’m going with The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. I’m excited to read this before the tv series comes out.

Roll 13: a 2 and a 5, so this is the final roll!

The “Hyped” prompt. I’m going to try and read Empire of the Vampire for this. I’m just debating weather I will wait for my physical copy to be delivered, or if I will get the e-book on release.

I’m going to take a deep breath, pray to the stars, and hope that I can conquer this pile of books in September. Are you also joining any of these readathons? Or do you also have some of these books on your TBR that you’re excited for? Let me know down below!

Cheers!

Charlotte
